Rookie Score
Rookie of the Year is awarded to the eligible rookie coach with the highest Rookie Score across the series. It celebrates new coaches who make a strong impact in their first steps on the tournament circuit.
Rookie of the Year is determined using a coach’s Rookie Score, calculated from their results across all eligible tournaments in the series.
Rookie Score is calculated as:
Rookie Score = Total Event Scores / √(Number of Events Attended)
All eligible tournament results are included in this calculation.
The coach with the highest Rookie Score is awarded Rookie of the Year.
Most Improved Score
The Most Improved award recognises coaches who have made the greatest step forward compared to where they started, across the North East of England Tournament Series. It is intended to reward genuine development and progression, not simply high absolute scores. This award measures relative growth, not dominance.
The calculation used is: ln (B/A)
Where:
A = the coach's best series score from the previous three seasons
B = the coach's current series score
This method means that improving from a low starting score is rewarded more strongly than making a similar increase from an already high score.
